SMTP Problem
« on: April 16, 2005, 05:24:18 AM »
After the installation of SME 6.5RC1, I tried to send an email out. However, I found out the following message from the mail log list.

del   xdelay  reason
  2  1920.22  Sorry, I wasn't able to establish an SMTP connection. (#4.4.1)/

What should I fix this problem? Thanks.

Have you tried getting SME to use your ISP's SMTP server?

Just an idea, and see if you get the same result.

Does this happen with all outgoing mail, or just mail to one receipient?

Rob.

I haven't tried to use my ISP's SMTP server. I am going to try it now .

This happen with all outgoing mail, also I can't receive any incoming mail. It looks like my SMTP server is not connecting to outside world.  Thx.

If the email is sent to the users within the same network, this is fine. Thx.

Your ISP is probably blocking your outgoing SMTP traffic; go ahead and route your outgoing mail via their SMTP server.

I tried to route my outgoing mail via my ISP's SMTP server and it works fine for outgoing. However, I still can't receive incoming mail from the WAN. Do you have any idea? Thanks.

This problem is probably related to your DNS-setup.
Your isp most likely blocks traffic over port 25.
If so, you ned to have your DNS-supplier create a MX-record for your isp's mailserver, with a lower priority than the record for your own mailserver (higher numeric value).
