Thanks - I threw caution to the wind and followed-up to the person who advised against "e-smith".
Plenty of propellerheads telling a Linux novice to install $LINUX or BSD, then add on an MTA, then install this & that ... little do they know how difficult that is for the typical small-office admin, i.e. the guy who "knows something about computers" and is thrust into the role with no preparation.
It's not just hard - I wager it's close to impossible for the typical office admin person to do securely and maintainably. I've been to lots of such sites after the fact

And little do they know just how easy it is to make a working mailserver with SME, and how well old hardware will run it. Oh well, maybe a few people with Clue will show up here, though the only link given is the ancient e-smith.com.
Hopefully. The sooner we get properly organised and have a stable release, good documentation and support channels, the more likely it is that people will get behind e-smith/SME Server once more.
