Need help Accessing Tivo through SME server
« on: August 24, 2005, 02:26:26 PM »
I've tried to do some searching, but haven't found anything helpful with my particular situation.  I've just gotten SME server up and running on an old compaq proliant, and I'm running it in server only mode.  All my internet traffic is handled through my router, and my Desktop, laptop, Tivo, and server all connect to the router.  I know I can (and probably eventually will) use SME as a server and gateway, but I'd like to solve this problem in the current configuration.

OK, so, I run TivoWebPlus on my hacked Tivo, which enables me to have a web interface to my networked Tivo.  For those unfamiliar, I can type in the IP address of the Tivo into firefox (while I'm on my home network) and it will bring up a webpage of my Tivo and allow me to interact with it.  So, the next step was to get remote access set up, and for that I set up port forwarding on my router, and orenosp on my Desktop PC for reverse proxy SSL authentication.  So, I would remotely type in https://mywebaddress:portnumber, and the router would forward that to my PC, where Orenosp would then require username/password authentication before sending the request onto the Tivo's IP address.

What I'd like to have instead, since I'm running a small website off my SME server, is the ability to have a hyperlink to my Tivo on one of my website's pages.  I'd still like to utilize SSL authentication prior to being directed to the Tivo webpage, and I'm not sure how to set all this up.  I would actually like to eliminate the use of non-standard ports (since they're sometimes blocked depending on where I'm at; i.e. when I'm at work), and just secure the Tivo from unauthorized access using measures available in SME.  For purposes of explanation, lets say my router is 40.40.2.1, my PC is 40.40.2.2, my Tivo is 40.40.2.3, and my server is 40.40.2.4.  I want to be able to go to http://mywebsite.homeip.net (running on the server 40.40.2.4), and click on a link that prompts for username and password before sending me the Tivo (40.40.2.3).  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!!
