Spamassasin causes performance loss on server

After installing Spamassasin from http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/index.html?frame=http%3A//sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/howtos/howto_29.htm on our 6.01, a notable loss of performance has occurred.

Most notably, people feel that delivering a mail from client to server now takes 4-5 seconds instead of instantly. Also performing IMAP-jobs such as moving mail to new folders now takes more time...

If I disable Spamassasin from the server-manager, the performance returns back to normal again.

The server is a very powerful dual-CPU machine with lots of SCSI-disk and RAM, so something else is wrong.

Any suggestions?

Your performance problem is most likely due to the fact that also outgoing emails are scanned. Are youa lso running clamav from swerts-knudsen.dk?

If that is the case then try to disable antivirus scan of outgoing emails and see whether this helps.

I'm nuts, or something else is driving me.......

I thought I had solved my Spamassasin problems (see further up in this thread) when the "daily report to Admin" suddenly starts to report that no mail of any kind passes the filter:

During this period, every mail has been delivered normally....

I've tried to stop and restart the service, but still no difference.

Anyone??????? (Just trying to get this working...)
