Problem with getting software off Dungog.net
« on: September 02, 2005, 06:28:10 PM »
Hello,

I've got a non-profit school I'm configuring SME 6.0.1 for and they want web filtering.  So I installed Yum and Python.  I added the dungog entries to yum.conf.  When I try install (yum install dgg-dans) I get a prompt to log into the repository (Enter username for Dungog.net Members at sme.dungog.net:).  I have no idea what to use.  I tryed anonymous and my email address, blank, and a couple of others.  Does anyone know what I need to use or how to get a username/password combo.

Thanks,

Joshua

dungog provides a few contribs for free download.

his more sophisticated ones, you have to pay, i believe $95 to access and download.

If you look around on the site, you should see a way to pay him and then get the password and download what you need.

We did the same and use his scripts.

Also try Swerts-Knudsen as he has good contribs as well.

Unfortunately not everything is for free. I believe also that the dungog pay stuff is for a one year licence, after that you need to pay again if you want further updates or even want to download again after one year.

If you want "free", are prepared to use the command line for initial config & later tweaking then see
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/dansguardian%20instal%20&%20configure%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm

It does the job and does not need to be altered very often once you have the initial setup & site tweaking done eg allow/disallow certain sites or file download types etc etc.
