As a newbie, I've found SME seeming harder to use than Fedora but maybe I'm just not finding the how-to's yet.  For instance, I occasionally see references to "command line".  I have used command line instructions before but how do you get to it in SME??  Thanks.

Jan,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm on SME Version 6.0.1-01.

I've tried ALT+F2 but nothing seems to changed.

When I view my SME box, all I see is a black screen with the words "mickey login:"  "mickey" is the computer name.

Pressing ALT+F2 does not cause anything to change.  It still says what it did originally "mickey login:"

If I do go ahead and login with the Admin name/password, I'm presented with the text-based server console...all of that seems to work fine.

Though I don't think it's the problem, I'm using a wireless keyboard.  I'll plug-in a conventional corded keyboard and see if that makes any difference.

Thank you again.

Log in as root, with your admin password. This should give you what you are looking for.

:-D -found this one too- :-D

you enter the bold stuff...

login as: root[enter]
root@mickey password: your_Admin&Root_password[enter]

now:
pico /etc/proftpd.conf
...should show you the config file you are looking for...
note: pico is an editor of the good old times ctrl-x get's you out...

note: there is no "x" in SME-Server ... only command line ..."graphics" are in panel mode = browser)

Regards
Reinhold

Finally got logged in to the command line.  Logging in as "root" did it.  Gee...it's the simple things that trip you up.  Now on to finding out the cause of my other problems.

Thanks to all of you for your great and timely help!
