ftp access, what I am I doing wrong?
« on: September 09, 2005, 11:19:10 PM »
I have a problem linking to the ftp server in my SME box. Here is my config:

puTTY login shows:  Welcome to SME Server 6.6
Web interface shows: SME Server 6.5

Create or modify an i-bay
Information Bay Name: external
Description: FTP acces via Internet
Group: Family
User acces via filesharing or user ftp: Write: Group Read: Every One
Public access via web or anonymous ftp:
Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI): Disabled
Move deleted files to Recycle Bin:Disabled

Remote Access: FTP
FTP Settings:Allow Public access (entire internet)
FTP password access: Accept passwords from anywhere.
(I know it is not wise to give access without password, just doing that to trouble shoot this problem)

Review Configuration
FTP server    ftp.-----.dyndns.org

The problem
When connection to my server via the internet or local ethernet, I seem to be able to connect to the ftp server: ftp.-----.dyndns.org but if I try to connect to the ibay set up as below  (ftp.-----.dyndns.org/external/) I get an error. (
Code: [Select]
An error occured opening the folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to acces the folder. Details 550/external/: no such file or directory.)

Other info:

I can connect to the ibay in win explorer.
I can connect to ftp.microsoft.com
The mail and web server seem to work correctly on the SME box.

Thanks

Pete

You need to be in the family group to access your ibay

so under the group setup screen you must add the users for your family group if family is aready made the click on modify to add members

ftp setup is not the problem it's in your group access

also the SME server you are running is 6.5 to fix the little typo, login to the console and use pico or browse to /etc/motd with midnight commander press F4 and edit the motd file to read 6.5 F2 to save F10 to exit

I seem to be in the same boat as Persisto.  My username is in the group with access but when I attempt to login externally via FTP, the username/password validation seems to work but the "list" command seems to hang things up.  That command is automatically run by my FTP client.
