SME 6.01 and SM200D Satellite driver - need help compiling
« on: September 16, 2005, 01:35:00 PM »
Hi there,
I am a new user of SME. I would like to compile the driver for a Telemann SM200D card for SME 6.01.
My problem:
Until I have the driver up and running I am limited to dial-up speed, so installing the dev rpms really is not an option  :-( and my desktop machine is on kernel 2.6....

I do have the sources of the driver and wonder if anyone is willing to compile them for me/the community?

Any help is appreciated -Thanks

Btw. is anyone out there using SME to connect to Bordernet via Satellite?

pws,

While I'd hate to rain on your parade, I am going to anyhow. I have tried the exact config you are attempting for 6 months without success. This was in part because I don't know how to do asymetric routing and neither do BorderNet. My experience with BorderNet was shocking and I would never use them but I just might be the unfortunate one. I have compiled the drivers and got the card working, problem was their "proxy" software. Now it is possible I tossed the compiled driver in discust before moving to ISDN but you are fortunate. I still have it I think, now I'll need somewhere to send it?

Finally, search on this site you might find my unanswered questions as you will also if you search www.whirlpool.net.au.

Stephan.

And the rain continues ... I too tried unsuccessfully to get this combination working with Bordernet!

The problem is not getting the card to work, I had a number of Telemanns working a charm on SME5.5 (could never compile the drivers successfully on later versions).  The issue is getting the satellite proxy system to work.  I gave up after a few months and have moved on.

I agree with Brookes' comment on Bordernet as well.

Hi Stephan and kadybee,
I totally agree with you about Bordernet. I am one of their new acquired (former NZ Ihug Ultra) customers  :-x

I have been in contact with their managers (help desk is a time waister) and they confirmed the statement on their web site, that it is actually running on Red Hat 7,8,and 9.
Unfortunately for me they switched the old sat service off before I was able to download all the dev rpms -  I am now back to dial up speed

If you still have the driver (compiled for 6.01) I am more than inclined to give it a go. Please email me privately (stefan at pws dot co dot nz) so we can discuss how to get the beast to me.

Your help would be really appreciated
