Topic: is this right - can't ping from intra to inter

please help - i'm new to e-smith---

i can ping  one node from another within the intranet, but cannot ping the e-smith server nor the outside from the within.intranet.  i can ping the outside from the e-smith-server, and can access the outside through port 80 from intranet nodes.  is this correct?  if so, then how do i enable pinging (other than to just each other) to the intranet.   If this is not correct, can someone please help?

At a guess it sounds like you dont have the ip address of the e-smith server set in your gateway settings under network neighbourhood (asuming e-smith is your gateway)

Even if this was the case you should still be able to ping the internal ip address of the e-smith box (you just wouldnt be able to ping external ip addresses).

This is not something that needs to be set up, it should just work so long as your network settings are correct.

Having said that i just remembered that i use smoothwall as my gateway and e-smith as a server only, but i assume that there shouldnt be any problems.
