A program by ingenuityworks.com (All The Right Type v3.7) is supposed to run its database sever on a linux platform. Their instructions from their website:
******************************************************
How do I install the database on a Linux server?
A The current build of our Linux server program requires glibc2.2. This means that it requires a fairly new version of Linux to run (ie: Mandrake v8.0 or newer, or Redhat v7.1 or newer).
To "install" the miniserver:
Copy the Linux miniserver directory (Linux_miniDB) from the ATRT 3 CD-ROM onto the hard drive of the Linux workstation. You can do this while signed on as any user.
Within the directory you copied to, make a sub-directory for each school you wish to have supported by this server installation. Name the sub-directory after the school.
The first time the server program is run after creating a sub-directory, the empty database directory will be populated with a set of default empty data files.
Run the server program (atrtserv.linux) and make any arrangements necessary to ensure that the program will always be running. If the server program is not running, students and teachers will not be able to use All The Right Type 3.

Now, I'm running SME 6.01 which is supposed to have the indicated libraries versions (glibc2.2. or better?) but the atrtserv.linux program complains:
[root@gbljhopdc Linux_miniDB]# ./atrtserv.linux
./atrtserv.linux: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
When I installed rpm -ivh compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.fc4.i386.rpm to provide the shared libraries, different dependency error messages came up. Sorry, but I can't recreate those messages.
I zipped the Linux_miniDB directory and posted it
http://www.mts.net/~nbryan/files/Linux_miniDB.zip here. Can someone see if they can solve the library dependencies to make this program run under SME 6.01? I support a high school with 1500 users (windows boxes here so no prob with ATRT DB install) but also have 4 off-campus sites running SME as domain controllers - excellent servers! - and would like to see them have access to the typing program as well.
MANY thanks in advance for any clues as to how to do this. If it's a lost cause (funky Linux_miniDB program, etc.) better I know that sooner rather than wasting any more time.
Regards all,
Neil
