I'm trying to download an iso image from contribs, and I notice it's really slow, so are the web site pages
and there is an average of 25% packet loosing in a ping to the site
I asked a friend to make tests and has similar results.
any problems there?

Try here:

http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases

I made a test on a 8mbit ADSL link (in France)specifically to answer you:
6.0.1 downloads in less than 10 minutes.
Even with a few extra "hops" to the other side of the world it probably will still be faster than contribs.org which here shows 8 hrs to download v6.0.)

People downloading ISOs and automated updates of contribs packages are the major reaons for contribs.org being so slow.

I have redirected all accesses to the contribs and releases trees to our mirror sites. We'll be spreading the load across various servers over the coming weeks.

contribs should be much happier now. For those with FTP accounts, please do not download ISO images directly from contribs.org

Thanks,

Gordon
