Have you read the manual ?

VPN support is included in sme server, just enable it (pptp) in server manager/remote access and make sure you enable VPN access on a per user basis too.

You may have problems if you use a router & server only mode as you will need to forward the required protocols in your router, search here on VPN for the answers.

A bridged modem will work OK with server in server/gateway mode.

Just tell your users the IP numbers

In windows do Start/Run
\\172.16.96.1
will show you all the sharenames available on the server
or
\\172.16.96.2
will show you all the sharenames available on the other application server

You can map a drive if you know the IP & sharename
net use N: \\172.16.96.2\sharename2
net use M: \\172.16.96.10\sharename10

You can put all of ths information (eg IP numbers etc) into a batch file that remote users can run locally (email them the file). That way they don't have to remember what to do.

Why would your *client-side* machines need a specific IP range?  Isn't it enough that they're connected to, and part of, your LAN?  The client machines can access any machine on the LAN by IP, and the SME box will route all ports ... so what's the problem?

prasann4u,

If understand right, you want to have people from outside your LAN to access this server that is withinyour LAN.

Enter a Port Forward rule in SME and have it point to the IP of the other server in your LAN.

You can also setup PPTP VPN in the server-manager.
Setup users and enable them to access through VPN.
Once connected they are part of the LAN and get an IP number starting at 172.16.96.254 and down.
Now they should be able to reach the server on your LAN as well.
