I decided it was time to havea good look at V7 since it is now looking like being so close to final.
I have encountered a real strange problem which may or may not be worthy of adding to the bug list.
(1) have an SME 6 Server gateway IP 192.168.2.10 which was providing DHCP Services to the network
(2) built an SME7 server only IP 192.168.2.15 without DHCP. At the appropiate point in the config, I pointed this server to the V6 server (192.168.2.10) as its gateway for internet connectivity
(3) Shut down EVERYTHING, added second NIC to SME7 nd reconfigured to Server-Dedicated Gateway. Enabled DHCP Services for local networrk and setup a range of 30 IP's well outside the original Range.
(4) Fired SME7 and XP workstation up
Now , when I check the IP of the XP Workstation it still has an IP from the V6 SME Server (whic is powerd off and has no Network cables attached) and XP still thinks the DHCP Server & WINS server are the V6 Server. (192.168.2.10). As I would expect, I am not able to ping 192.168.2.10 on my network
Somewhere within V7, there are some setting that appear to be left behind from the original install.
Because the gateway is corrct, internet connectivity is fine. I havenot put it through sufficient additional testing to determine if there are any additional issues but I would expect that perhaps my XPworkstation may have trouble browsing network resources (incorrect WINS). Also, I have not done a full clean reinstall to see if this issue is resolved.
Just maybe I am a dip-stick and have missed something important and am the maker of my own problem here.
Any comments ?
