I am not sure what I did or how, but, now my web site requires https:// when viewed from the internet, but works fine as http:// from within my LAN. When I try to access even the primary web site with http:// I get a username/password dialog box with Viking above where the user name goes. I have tried known valid user/passwords for my server but still to not get validated to the site.

I have a rather vanilla system, recently upgraded from 6.5 to 7.5B8 (problem was there prior to upgrade). I have also upgraded the hardware twice recently, both times doing an update install with 6.5.

I have skimmed the manual, gone through server-manager, and tried a search of the forums and do not see anything that should be preventing me from working.

Any suggestions?

what type of connection to the internet do you have (DSL, cable, T-1/E-1, etc...)?  Is there a router in front of your server?  If so, is port 80 forwarded to the server?  Is the wan IP of the router (if no router, server) a public IP?  Does your provider allow web servers?

Just a few questions to try to figure out what is going on...

Do you have a ZOOM modem/router? I do, and I get a 'Viking' prompt when logging into it's web admin. When you are accessing your IP via http://, the router is trying to log you into itself. (I could be wrong about this tho ;-))You need to forward port 80 to your server's IP.

I think  you also need to first change the port that you use to administrate your router via web from 80, otherwise you'll maybe not be able to access it via web admin.

Yes, I do have a Zoom modem. I was thinking inside the box so to say.

I have my modem configured as a bridge instead of router and that was causing problems with the modems web server being on port 80 also. Once you fine folks got me to look at the modem I found a setting to change the port of the modem's web server and now all is well!
