Help on SME7 as BDC (samba) to remote SME6 server over VPN
« on: December 20, 2005, 12:25:31 PM »
.
I'm wondering if it is possible to set up an SME7 -test- server as an BDC to a remote SME6 server (that will also become SME7 when it comes out of beta).

Has anyone got any experience with this?! I've been searching and reading and have got/found the following issues:

    - Problems with browsing local shares if authenticated on remote server.
    - There are reports of this beeing possible over VPN, but are there going to be problems with DHCP/DNS/WINS.
    - Will it really act as a BDC, e.g. will it take over authentication/login scripts etc. if the VPN connection is lost.
    - Performance issues/enhancements
    - Is it wise to split workstations and servers/routers in different ranges e.g.:
       servers 192.168.1.x / workstations Site1 192.168.2.x / workstations Site2 192.168.3.x
(i don't really have that much equipment but i like things structured)
    - Does anyone know of/have a rough howto or any ideas for a plan of attack on this one

Regards,
jester.
