Topic: PPTP Woes

I have exhausted what I can find.  I have a SME 7.09b server running at my house.  I try to connect to it from my office.  I get the login to the system, I am sure it is to get to the share and not my website.  I have 3 users that are able to login on the local network. I setup the users and PPTP as the manual indicates.   So the users are OK,  I have checked their setup to make sure they can VPN and I have 2 PPTP users enabled.  I setup a VPN connection on my system (WinXP Home) at the office.  I ran thru ALL the Windoze updates and I found the Reg change.  When I try to use the Win VPN I can see it Verifying username & Password but, it chokes and redials.  So here I am asking for some of the collective wisdom.  Any suggestions?

7.0beta9 is a *test* release. You should be using it to find problems and report them via the Bug Tracker. Please search there first, to see if someone else has reported a problem with PPTP. If not, report your problem.

First, however, you should upgrade to 7.0pre1. Many bugs have been fixed since 7.0beta9.

I know beta9 is a test.  I am trying to figure this whole SME Server thing out.  I started with 7 because I could only get an install for VTiger for version 7.  I will look at the bug reports and if need be down grade to 6.

I am using 7.0pre1, and had the same problem as you when trying to log in using WinXP. I found the solution in the modification of some default settings of the Win XP VPN/PPTP client. Try this:

1) Go into 'Properties' and then the 'Security' tab. Check the 'Advanced (custom settings)', and then the 'Settings' button
2) Uncheck 'Microsoft CHAP (MS-CHAP)' so that you only have the Version 2 MS-CHAP v2 left checked. Click 'OK'
3) Go to the 'Networking' tab and click the 'Settings' button. Ensure all 3 boxes are checked.

That should be it!! Good luck
