SME in Windows AD Domain
« on: January 16, 2006, 07:31:51 PM »
Hello All.  New SME user here and I'm looking for some info to try to do things the 'right way' as I set up SME on my network.

My SME server (6.5) is going to act as a file / print server in my local office.  This is a branch office that is connected via WAN to our main office.  I'd like to somehow set up shares on the SME server that use the user/pass info from the AD server (Win 2003) to authenticate.  The server is running in server only mode behind a separate firewall.

I am not sure if I need to set up local users on the SME server to do this or if I need to somehow sync the user database from AD to SME or tell Samba to look @ active directory to authenticate the users as they access the shares.

In searching the forums, it seems like some level of integration is possible, but I did not find any posts really giving me details on the particular setup.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
