7.0pre1 SSMTP with outlook
« on: January 16, 2006, 04:22:18 PM »
I've got 7.0pre1 up and running (upgrade from 6.0.1.0.1 went well following greg's script as a guideline).

Email is arriving fine and can be sent using the SMTP setting with my Outlook client.  However, when setting to SSMTP, Outlook complains:

Task 'mail.arachnerd.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I have Outlook checked to use SMTP SSL connectiosn on port 25.  Is this the right port?  The 6.0 securemail contribs used 465...

Or is this a bug I need to report?

Forget it... I tried port 465 in my Outlook client, and it worked.

7.0pre1 so far is GREAT!  Very nice work, and much appreciated.  Smooth, fast install.  Smooth update process with yum.  Very impressive.  Many, many thanks.

-There is a Bug report for SME 7 on this topic - BUG383 (http://wiki.contribs.org/bugzilla). Have you noticed that the test facility of Outlook fails for SMTP?  If you have time, could you please check this and indicate which version of Outlook you are using.  Thanks.

I'm using Outlook 2003 sp2.  I'm not familiar with any test function to check SMTP settings.

Now that I've set it for SSMTP port 465, its working perfectly.

I'll test with some mac clients as well.  But so far so good.

In Outlook, in the email account panel, there should be a "Test Account Settings button".  On the version of Outlook tested to date, SMTP or SSMTP fail because the test email created by Outlook does not have a valid date header...
