Is there a way to set start and stop times for servers based on time of day? I would like to set a small time frame that my servers are visible to other systems on the internet  I'm considering buying a lamp timer to just power the whole box down and back on again.

Hey mrothe,
if the idea of the "lamp timer" is literal(?), it is not a good idea.
Dropping the power to a mounted operating system is going to create problems. (Although the modern linux file system is robust)

How about putting a switch or hub in front of the SME Server?
Let the switch or hub handle the on and off times.
