Printer wont listen
« on: December 19, 2001, 01:23:19 PM »
Recently I had to rebuild my server after a crash. The network printer used to work great. Output on the new print queue is building up. The print driver is sending it to the printer, but the queue is not talking to the printer. It works ok as a local printer - same cable taken from lpt1 on the server and plugged into lpt1 on a nearby pc.
The printer setup (windows98) on the source pc seems to be configured to capture the print queue on the server correctly. I have not had much experience, Can any one help please.

OK - this is not my strong point but maybe this may give you a couple of pointers - hopefully in the right direction
1 is the printer on the pc have the option to "use printer offline enabled"?
2 have you restored the user accounts as they were before the e-smith was rebuilt
3 are you logged in the pc's trying to print with a user and password that also exists on the e-smith?
4 do you have the correct drivers for the printer in question - have you tried printing to it with a "generic text only" printer
5 is the pc in the same workgroup as the e-smith (they should be!)

I hope this gives a few ideas of where you could be looking, if any of these cure teh problem, please post back so others may benefit as well
