Backup & restore problem SME Server 7.Oprel1
« on: February 05, 2006, 03:12:45 AM »
Hi All
SME Server 7.Oprel1

I was using the SME server-manager. I attempted to do a restore. I inadvertently selected my phpBB2 file to restore by mistake.

Now when I view the SME service-manager & I go to “backup or restore” I see this message:

Backup configuration and status
Tape backups are disabled
A system restore has completed
It began at: Sat Feb 4 14:50:57 2006
and finished at: Sat Feb 4 14:51:00 2006
You must reboot the server to activate any configuration changes that were made as a result of this restore.

After rebooting the message is still there. seems stuck.

I also notice I am not able to login using ssh myserver -l admin. It says the password is wrong. Tried to reset admin password in server-manager. I said it worked, but still can not log in.

I was able to ssh myserver -i root with the same password and it worked ok.

SEM server-manager seems to work.

Also webmail is broken.  I get the following message.
A fatal error has occurred
DB Error: connect failed
Details have been logged for the administrator .

Don't know where to find the “Details logged for the administrator”??
Is there a way out of this mess short of starting over?

Thanks
Clark

Hi all

instead of wast everyones time with this problem I decided to wipe out everything & start from scratch. I'll chalk it up to practice.

When I booted up the CD to reinstall everything I saw the option to upgrade. I said what do I have to lose?

What do ya know, It seems to have fixed everything.

Works for me.

Cgetty,

After you tried to do this restore of a phpbb2 file, the server manager should have given you an error message. If it didn't then we have a bug here.

Did the restore process with the phppb2 file give you an error messages?  If not, you need to report this as a bug.

Thanks, Paul

You'll need to start again with a fresh install, apply updates, then restore from the right file.

Charlie,

Shouldn't he have gotten an error "RESTORE FAILED" after attemptimg what he did?  Maybe he did but just didn't see it.

I will test myself...I'm off now to trash my test server!!!
