Topic: testing mail server

I can't receive external email, and so attempted to test it from externally by doing a telnet 123.345.321.123 25  to see if it responds.  I don't get a response, so does anyone know if I should?  I use this method to test all sorts of external mail servers and normally get something responding.
I can send email out okay, but it is just dead externally.

You can try to use
smtpdiag.exe
on your xp from inside your lan to see if there is
somthing wrong
you can get it on google
and some explanation how to use it
