Topic: Upgrade from SME 5.6 to 7.0 pre2

Hello everyone,

In the interest of living dangerously, I just upgraded our SME 5.6 server to the latest SME 7.0 pre2 release. Most of it seems to work fine. I ran into some problems with my custom templates, but that was easy enough to fix. However, some problems still remain - maybe someone can provide me with clues as to what might have caused these:

- The Ibays-panel has completely disappeared from the server-manager.

- The groups panel is still there, but no longer shows the groups (it says there are no groups). You can still see the groups when you click on a user though.

-  When booting, I get the following error:

- DNS doesn't seem to work. My connection is a bit unusual in that it involves ppp over a pptp connection to a Speedtouch Home ADSL modem, so I had to customise bits of the masq, network and ifcfg-eth1 scripts to get  a connection. (Nothing fancy, just changed external interface to ppp0, and IP of eth1 to 10.0.0.150 to match the modem subnet.) Have I overlooked something? Resolving works fine from the server itself (after adding DNS entries to resolv.conf), and I can ping to the internet from any machine connected, but somehow the server will not resolve anything for the connected machines... I guess I could get the dhcpd to give out an external DNS as a workaround, but of course that is far from perfect...

Can anyone shed some light on these problems? And are any of these bugs that I should report?

Yes, Please report each issue separately in the bug tracker.

We haven't done a lot of testing with 5.6 -> 7.0, but the issues should be raised. We may decide not to fix them as nobody should be using releases prior to 6.0 (or without all updates applied), but please raise them.

But we haven't made any design decisions which would preclude such upgrades, and we would prefer that they "just worked".

Anything which doesn't work as you expect should be reported as a bug, unless it's written up in Release Notes as an intentional change.
