Hi all
Concerning
> Installation problems and feedback should go into the bug tracker.
IMO only core system bugs should go into the bug tracker. Allowing
Installation problems would dilute the bug trackers purpose which is core
system bugs and make it more time consuming for the dev's to weed out
what is actually a core bug, which in the end will delay bug fixes.
Dev's are responsible for core development and bug fixes.
User's are responsible for contrib's and addon development and bug fixes.
Doing so may convolute responsiblity leaving dev's to explain their position
with reguards to external development.
A line needs to be drawn in the sand and awareness to not cross it, for it may
lead to expectations which cannot and should not be fulfilled by core dev's.
Prior to Ruffdog's taking over contribs the project was a mess.
Ron with all of his efforts in the contract has made it clear not to
disseminate responsiblity.
It is important to understand the tools we have at hand and how they
should be used as well as the effects their usage may have upon the contract.
The basic tools are the Forum, Bug Tracker and Wiki of which the Forum
is the corner stone, for it is the place that 99% of the visitors/users
to SME flock.
The forum until recently suffered from lack of attention and will need
additional attention to improve & restore it's intented use & capability.
With over 120,000 posts and lack of attention the forum has not
fulfilled it's purpose. Akin to a child without parents who has gone astray.
If nothing else, the rules for posting and where/what/howto to post should
be made very clear and widely publicized.
The first forum catagory should be...

The Wiki is for communication of any type between all parties
involved. However IMO the Wiki is cumbersome to use and most will not
take advantage of what it has to offer. An alternative solution should be
considered.
What is missing at contribs.org is a "One Stop Shop" so to speak for user
developed contribs that defines and maintains all information about all
availible contribs. At this point this information is being disseminated
all over the world making it very difficult to obtain the correct contrib
for a particular system base. Simply there is no standardized procedure
and format for submittal of a contrib to one consolidated arena.
Searching the user folder storage at contribs.org is extremely time consuming
and in most cases will not prove to be fruitful.
Best described as an "exersize in futility".
A modified Bugziila to a "Contribs Tracker" could provide a environment
similar to sourceforge giving the user dev's one place to advertise
their contrib as well as provide for bug communications and resolution,
thus eliminating the need to incorporate those bugs into the core bug tracker
which in the end will pose a negative effect on contribs core developement.
In reguards to moderators, better late then never.
There is a wide availibility of moderators and only requires selection
to make it official to the user base.
With developement of SME7 and attention to the contribs.org site the future for
contribs.org looks to be very bright.
Excellent work gentleman....
