replacing kernel rpm
« on: January 03, 2002, 04:41:47 AM »
Greetings all.  Okay, have been playing for a while with modifying the standard sme 5 kernel to include the program available at http://linux-speakup.org andthink I have it right.  I now have a standard redhat kernel with the speakup drivers compiled in so I can use my sme box locally.  I can replace the i686 kernel rpm from sme serveer with my own but wonder if I have to change anything else like lilo.conf to reflect the new kernel.  have always compiled from source code directly on a machine and used a kernel on the same machine.  if I replace the rpm, do I have to do anything  else to use the new kernel?  I didn't deviate from the .config file in the source rpm so I think al the modules and things will be correct but will see when I can boot from the new kernel.  other than installing the rpm, what else do I have to do?

any help would be appreciated.  I might submit this as a contributed rpm at some point although I don't suspect there will be much demand for it.

any thoughts appreciated.

thanks.  Brian.
