Yum sources and configuration.
« on: March 16, 2006, 12:03:43 PM »
Hey,

I've been searching the site for a document I read some time back on how to point Yum to the updated Centros sources. I can't remember all the required files and I and getting an error now:

Importing Additional filelist information for dependency resolution
--> Restarting Dependency Resolution with new changes.
--> Populating transaction set with selected packages. Please wait.
---> Downloading header for kernel to pack into transaction set.
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/7/os/i386/RPMS/kernel-2.6.9-22.0.2.EL.i686.rpm: [Errno 4] IOError: HTTP Error 404: Not Found
Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: RPMS/kernel-2.6.9-22.0.2.EL.i686.rpm from smeos: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

Can someone tell me where all the sources are within the config files and where they should be pointing?

Cheers

Stephan.

Did you mean this one: 3rd-Party Yum Repositories setup

Thanks for that and while it is very interesting it is not what I'm after. That talks about optional software or add-ins. Even so it also mentions locations like ".centos.org/centos/4/" but then I browse to that location there is no directory "4" it is more like "4.xx". I did update my YUM.conf to reflect this change (changing 4 to 4.3) with no success. I might try and download the SME 7 virtual mchine ans pull all the config files from there. Can someone tell me what they would be?

Is this a bug or can everyone else update.

I'm trying to update from 7 beta 8 to whatever is current and I'm getting the same error.

Can you send this in to Bug tracker as a bug please along with what version you were updating from etc. This will backup my bug report.

Thanks

Great and thanks for that. The info there seemed to refresh the YUM cache and I'm happy about that, but, same error:

Importing Additional filelist information for dependency resolution
--> Restarting Dependency Resolution with new changes.
--> Populating transaction set with selected packages. Please wait.
---> Package screen.i386 0:4.0.2-5 set to be updated
---> Downloading header for kernel-smp to pack into transaction set.

Trying other mirror.
Error: failure: RPMS/kernel-smp-2.6.9-34.EL.i686.rpm from smeos: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

So I went to: http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/7/os/i386/RPMS
and it redirected to: http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver//releases/7/os/i386/RPMS which does not appear to be a valid URL so I took the double backslash out to no avail. So I when back to the root and followed the path and got to here http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/7/os/i386/ so there appears to be a problem with the redirection and/or mirror cause the directory RPMS is not there?
Perhaps it is supposed to point here: http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/releases/7/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/

There was more in it than that. I suggest you read all the posts carefully especially the bit about:

"P.S. if you want to go back to the defaults, delete the /home/e-smith/db/yum_repositories file before doing the reconfiguration reboot."

By the way you change the repositories in the server manager panel Software Installer.

As requested in many places, and also in this thread, please go to the bug tracker. This issue is already raised there:
