Cron.daily message: mod_ssl generating private RSA key !?

Hi all,

Last night I got below message from /etc/cron.daily/conf-mod_ssl:

3318 semi-random bytes loaded
Generating RSA private key, 1024 bit long modulus
..........++++++
.......++++++
e is 65537 (0x10001)
Using configuration from /usr/share/ssl/openssl.cnf
You are about to be asked to enter information that will be incorporated
into your certificate request.
What you are about to enter is what is called a Distinguished Name or a DN.
There are quite a few fields but you can leave some blank
For some fields there will be a default value,
If you enter '.', the field will be left blank.

Country Name (2 letter code) [AU]:State or Province Name (full name) [Some-State]:Locality Name (eg, city) []:Organization Name (eg, company) [Internet Widgits Pty Ltd]:Organizational Unit Name (eg, section) []:Common Name (eg, YOUR name) []:Email Address []:


Does anyone have an idea what might have happened here?

Afterwards I saw that it happened last year also, so I guess it is some SSL maintenance.

Normally SSL certificaets have a expiry date. My guess is that the expiry date of the self-signed certificate of your server expired and was automatically regenerated.

You can check the certificate to see when it will expire by viewing the certificate when you browse to a secure page (for instance the /server-manager share).
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
