« on: March 30, 2006, 10:26:44 AM »
hi, built a new sme 7.x server today. made the default domain.  hoccec.local

made it a domian controller with dhcp installed. using xp pro machine with the xp registry hack done and cannot connect to the domain. In xp the domain is called hoccec.local and when ask to join domain.. the username/pasword box pops up, enter the admin name for the server and after a VERY long wait the respose is "server cannot be found"...

Any ideas? any ideas as to ahich log file to look at to find the error???

regards

Mike

What did you specify in the server-manager under the following entry?
Code: [Select]

+ Configuration
|  + Workgroup
|  |  + Windows Workgroup

I always use that entry to ad users to my domain, as this differs from my domain settings and that works perfectly.

I'ts not the "Domain" you should be trying to login to.

go to your web browser and login to your server with server-manager

under "Workgroup" what did you put next to "Windows workgroup" <--- this is the domain you will log into ... what ever you put there ... eg: test-domain

All your shares will be under what ever you call your server "Server name" eg: /testserver/share ... etc

Ohh and make sure "Workgroup and Domain Controller" is Yes.

Hope this helps.

Tib.
