Need to login as user from internet to access personal share
« on: April 20, 2006, 05:23:58 PM »
Hello, I setup this server SME 7 and it works great

I can access the server browsing w/network panel from either pc or mac, find the server click on it and login as a user, my personal share pops up and i can transfer and delete files like it was my own harddrive, works great.

What i need is to login from the internet, I repersent a school of 1500 students and teachers, many of whom need to access their personal shares from their houses thru the internet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
-Jason

I could be wrong but I believe the best way and the most secure way of doing this is to enable VPN access for the remote users.  The remote users would then use the standard vpn client included in most Windows operating systems to connect and receive a "local" ip address.  I believe you could also use SSH and SFTP client.

Now i can login remotely, but i do not get the same directory as i do locally.

What i get is... Printer (shared symbol), Printers and Faxes, and  Schedualed Tasks icons.

I cannot make any folders in this folder or map the drive.

What am i missing???

You might find that Gollem is more suitable ....

Users can access their own home directory from the Horde webmail.
