Hi
To TuxTux:
Swerts-Knudsens NIS Contrib/Howto could help on SME6x, it won't work out of the box on 7x...
To uomonet:
To correctly install an application to a network share, a lot of applications provide a network installer. Eg.: MS Office had a setup /a option to install it correctly on a network share. So did Corel Draw 9.
I didn't use these options in all cases.
I usually make sure one box is correctly installed as master, installing applications to P: as required. I actually check the registry for entries pointing to C: after the install.
After that, I make sure that the default user profile is updated, meaning anyone logging on to that box with a Domain User (From SME

for the first time will get the correct settings I prepared.
After that, the mashine is cloned as needed. All mashines have registry entries pointing to P:, the Apps work.
There are a lot of "easy" apps to install on a network. Most open source stuff like PuTTY, WinSCP, but also Total Commander are a snap to install on a network share.
Applications like Photoshop 7 won't install on a network share - seems to be bad programming of memory / temp storage creating a problem...
Updating is another Problem, requires a slightly different approach. I've used Novells ZEN 2x (Free Version) in a sandbox environment with a Novell Server and a P: Share on that Novell Server with the same directory contents as my SME P: network share and that monitors any changes to registry, local files, dlls and the such and gives me a diff file and a list of what went where. I can replicate that using login scripts, REG files and such.
There are other products out there which provide this feature of software distribution. YMMV...
