Requirements for Remote Webmin
« on: May 22, 2006, 10:46:25 PM »
To get Remote Access to the Server Manager I see there is a panel exactly for that.

I have used SSH succesfully but would like to get Webmin
working.

The scenario;

1) SME behind ADSL Router (Static IP)
2) W2K Client behind ADSL Router (Static IP)

On the router at 1) what other ports beside 443 (HTTPS) would
I have to forward / open to get this to work ?

Also, I have entered the WAN IP of 2) as the trusted network
with subnet 255.255.255.255

Is this right for correct operation of remote webmin or are
there any other requirements ?

Thanks

Depending on how sophisticated your Router is ;

You will need an RDR (Redirection Rule) to redirect port 443 requests to the SME box

You will also need a filter rule to let port 443 incoming

Other simpler routers, just enter details into the 'Virtual Server' section and add port 433 (https) and trhe LAN Ip of the SME

Now, at the remote site put in the Firefox address bar the WAN IP of the other site plus /server-manager

You will get asked some security and Voila - its like your where sitting right next to your SME !
