Backup2

Trying to migrate from a modified SME6 to a freshly installed SME7rc3 on a new computer. I have installed the backup2ws contrib on the SME6 box and made a backup of the old ibays.

Having trouble with failed dependencies installing the v7 backup2 on the v7 box

Code: [Select]

error: Failed dependencies:
        libstdc++.so.5 is needed by rar-3.5.1-7dmay.i386
        libstdc++.so.5(CXXABI_1.2) is needed by rar-3.5.1-7dmay.i386
        libstdc++.so.5(GLIBCPP_3.2) is needed by rar-3.5.1-7dmay.i386

Have I missed a download somewhere, because surely all required files would be included in a contrib of this quality?

Many thanks

David.

Point 1 - your post is off-topic for this forum. Please use the Contribs forum for issues related to contribs.

Point 2 - you should use the bug tracker to report problems with any contribs.

Thank you Charlie.

Point 1 accepted.  Sorry, finger trouble.

Point 2.  You quite often point users at the bug tracker, but I think you forget that many users do not have your confidence to assume they are dealing with a bug.

I looked up a few forum posts about backup2 on v7 which demonstrate that there are folk using it sucessfully.  In the backup2 bug tracker there are a few bugs, but none associated with show-stopping installations. My assumption in this case is that I have missed something, rather than discovered a bug.

I've had a bitch of a day trying to do this upgrade.

Why do people still not think to search.
It took me about 15 seconds to find this by searching on libstdc++.

They don't need to conclude that it's a bug. They only need to think it's possibly a bug.

The software should "just work". If it doesn't, then the software probably has a bug. Please report the issue to the bug tracker and let the developer(s) decide.
