Disabling SMTP proxy - is there a trick to this?

I have a system installed as 7RC1 with latest updates - so should be RC3.

We aren't using email on this server, so I had disabled the SMTP proxy, but outgoing email was bounced back with an error message about not allowing that email.

enabling smtp proxy appears to work ok.

Looking at the templates etc it appears the problem maybe that SMTPSmartHost isn't set.

Is anyone using this feature?

The doco doesn't currently state that anything else is required.

(I have yet to reproduce elsewhere, hence this sin't a bug yet. I'm just validating my expectations).

All I had to do was disable the "SMTP Proxy" under "Security", "Proxy settings" in the server-manager, then make sure my local users were configured to use a valid off-site SMTP server.

SMTPSmartHost is set under "Configuration", "E-mail", "Address of Internet provider's mail server" in server-manager -- but would only be relevant if you were using your SME box as a mail server or SMTP proxy.
