Dual NIC for a Single PCI SME Server
« on: June 08, 2006, 07:09:26 AM »
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has/knows of a Dual NIC that fits into into a single PCI slot and is compatible with SME6 or 7?

Found this one by Intel http://www.intel.com/network/connectivity/products/pro1000mt_dual_server_adapter.htm just down know if it's compatible with SME 6 or 7 since I can not locate the HCL for SME 6 or 7.

History: Customer bought a slimline IBM that has only one PCI slot on the motherboard and can not return it since it has been opened.

Any help would be appreciated.

Alternatively, you could use USB for the second NIC?

Hi Zoran

The Intel NIC should be fine in SME7, and with the addition of Darrell Mays Intel drivers, work fine in SME6.

I have a dual Compaq 10/100 NIC out of a DL380G1 that SME recognises fine (Intel chip).  If you get desperate I can let you have this for a few bucks.

Check the system in case it need low profile cards, co in this case neither of these option will work (unless the new Intel comes as a low profile design).

Cheers

Graeme

There is currently no support for USB NICs.

f someone wishes to send me a few different USB ethernet adaptors which do have linux support, I can investigate adding automated support for them. [Note that USB will not support full LAN speeds.]

I might take you up on the offer after I do some of the testing next week. Shoot me an email with the desired $$$ for the NIC plz.

The NIC's is not a low profile one thankfully. I will keep everyone posted on this one.
