Newbie question about user configuration
« on: June 16, 2006, 05:52:34 PM »
Hello,

Fist .... i'm sorry about my spelling  :-(
I have a question about a possibility in SME 7.

In my company i have 30 user's but only a few have Web access wright's.
My DC is a W/2000 Server and also is the Mail server (Exchange 2000) and Proxy server (ISA server).

Is there a possibility in passing the Proxy and mail server to a SME7 machine with the restrition of only a few user have WEB access??

I want to keep the W/2000 machine as DC and the SME7 machine controling the mail and the WEB.

In the Manual of SME6 i didn't see nothing regarding this mather.

Please help me out here!  :-o

Then please use the SME 7 forum. This one is obsolete. Please use a "Subject" which accurately identifies the issue you want answered.

I answered this exact question about 3 weeks ago ...

Can't be bothered to search for it so here it goes again.

Through Windows server you can point everyone to your SME server as the gateway ... windows server will act as the PDC as well as the DHCP server etc.

Once you point everyone to the sme server through windows you can load on Dansguardian and block ppl through it so as they either only have mail access or nothing.

Or you can do this through IPtables ... but don't ask me on that one ... I use addon programs instead.

Dungog have a lot of usefull addons that could help you with blocking and or allowing access to certain areas ... some you may have to pay for .. but it's cheap.

If you require more detail let me know and I'll dig up how to do a few setups etc.

Regards,

Tib

Dansguardian does not block email but does block access to web, if that's how you configure it.
Install Dansguardian and look inside the various config files as there are many options available
See

My misstake .... That is correct Danguardian does not block e-mail.

If you want to block someone internally from external e-mail then use Dungog E-mail Managment addon ... very usefull if you require a few ppl only to have internal e-mail and others to have internal as well as external.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. I want to block Web acess but all the PPL have external e-mail.
