Login problem

I'm unable to log in to a fresh install of 7.0rc3.

From reading the manual I understand that I’m supposed to write "admin" at the first prompt (where it says: "server-name" login:), when I do this it just clears the screen and writes '"server-name" login:' again. Before clearing the screen I think it writes something like "symbol lookup error" plus some more, but I’m not sure if it is exactly what it writes. It disappears very fast when the screen is cleared.

I also tried to log in form another computer using "IP-address/server-manager", same result, I just get a new window asking me for user and password.

I tried resetting the password, with no result.

I'm new to Linux so a little slow with the technical stuff.

What you are describing is correct...

from the console you should be able to login with username then you wil be asked for the passwd for that user.

Although once setup you shouldn't have any immediate need to use the console as day-to-day tasks are carried out using Server Manager

You should be able to access Server Manager from a browser on your local network:

https://server-ip-address/server-manager

again using "admin" and the passwd you setup during the inital setup.

Did you check the SMEServer ISO against the MD5 sum before you burnt it to CD?

Did you see any errors or encounter any problems during the insall?

If you cannot login to your server how did you reset the passwd?

server-manager is used with a web browser

root or admin are used at the console

always case sensitive

I didn't do a MD5 on the ISO, but I used the media check in the installer.

I had no errors during the install. I used the i586 installer, I’m using a via epia board. The cd just rebooted before using smei586 at the boot prompt.

To change the password I wrote " single" in the boot menu, after pressing a and then passwd.

I think it says "/bin/login: symbol lookup error" plus some more when trying to enter "admin" in the console, (really fast, then the screen is cleared and "server-name" login: returns).

I tried logging in to server-manager using both firefox and IE from a winXP box, using the username admin and the password I chose.

This indicates that you have a seriously broken install.

All problems with any release or contrib should be reported via the Bug Tracker.
