No FTP installs that I know of. First thing to do is to allow it to verify the CD as it wants to before installing. If it passes that, I'd try to burn another disk in case of a bad burn, and then try re-downloading the ISO image in case of a bad download. Otherwise you're wanting to look at a different CD-ROM drive or other hardware issue.

I did about 12 installs/upgrades from 7.0rc1 and 6.0.1 of 7.0rc3 this week testing various things, and used several different machines and CDs. I had no problems at all getting the computer to boot and install off the CD. The verification is tries at the beginning of the install should be key.

I found on older hardware I needed to disable DMA & ACPI for the install to proceed, you may only need to disable DMA, if so ommit the acpi=off.

press "Esc" when the CD boots and at the commandline put "sme ide=nodma acpi=off"

I have seen this problem of media detection when using a DVD drive to read a CD from SME.
So I put an old CDROM on machine just to install linux.

about to disable ACPI+DMA... you also can do it on BIOS.
