In a Quandry? SME 7 RC2 Production Ready?
« on: June 03, 2006, 04:08:56 AM »
Good Evening,

I'm in a serious dilemna. I want to go to a groupware package that actually works on SME.

I really like Open-Xchange because of it's speed and appearance. The major issue with it is the lack of administration. I don't even think that if I purchased it that I would even be able to get administration going.

I also like the appearances of egroupware but don't feel comfortable going to SME 7 RC2 in a production environment. Can anyone provide me any assurances in regards to this?

If I don't feel comfortable with any solution provided, I'm probably going to go to Windows as the platform for egroupware. I don't like this but I'm going crazy here.

I appreciate all the efforts of the developer's in regards to SME 7.

Hello wallyrp,

Don't worry !!!

We have presently 3 SME Server 7 RC2 in production mode  :-D  :-D  :-D

And we have 2 of them have eGroupWare running on it with 150 Users for one and 10 Users for the other one... ( but with 10 users simultaneously)

We start the installation with PR3,RC1 and RC2 for some server and install from RC2 for other server and all server works fine...

The only problem I get is Hardware Problem     Hard drive crash !!!

But the SME Server RAID make is job...

So I believe in SME Server and I consider it was enough stable to roll in production.

Have a good weekend,

Wally,
I am running 2 locally.both RC2. One is a web server with 38 virtual domains point to 31 ibays, and 75+ email accounts. works great. the other is a backup server that I backup data from 9 other servers using rsync on a daily basis. I currently have 3 other RC2 servers in the field in small offices, and they are running like champs. I am not using any groupware at this time, but looking forward to trying it.

Bob
If you think you know whats going on, you obviously have no idea whats going on!

I don't have anything to add here about the topic, I'm more curious on eGroupWare.  What do you like that it has versus what horde provides?  I'm not only talking about horde, imp, turba, and ingo that are included in the base, but also kronolith, mnemo, nag, and gollem.

I also don't have any problem opening a new thread on this, I just wanted to make sure the people that are commenting on ths were aware of my question.

Hello mrjhb3,

eGroupWare was wonderful !!!

It's not just a calendar, notes and to do list, There is about 20 applications (contribs) work with it, project, chat, workflow, Ticket systems, etc...

This is why I used eGroupWare... And now we are able to sync with Outlook, Evolution, Mozilla, etc...

Look at www.egroupware.org

Powerfull application based on LAMP...

Good Afternoon,

I'm running:

SME 6 on a dual P3 600Mhz w/128MB & 40GB
SME 7 on a P3 600Mhz Compaq Proliant Server w/128MB & 10GB

Open-xchange runs so fast and is so robust on SME 6. eGroupWare on SME 7 was a sluggish pig. eGroupWare also appears to require more configuration as I was constantly getting errors while running around in eGroupWare. I understand that this may be my own fault for not following some minor detail or making a typo but I was able to successfully install Open-xchange with no errors. After installation, it ran beautifully.

Now, I've broken my Open-xchange by trying to install ATFrogs which will administer Open-xchange. Has anyone tried to install ATFrogs or OXadm on their system whether it be SME 6 or 7?

I really like Open-xchange because of the speed and looks. I'm tempted to buy it but if I do, I will evidently have to move everything to another server such as FreeBSD or something else because I can't seem to administer Open-xchange on SME. I know the panel exists to minor management of users and groups but that's all. Any more ideas?

SME 7 RC2 Production Ready - Im happy with it.

I am running 2 servers in a production enviroment. One is running Hylafax, Vmware-Server and Conflux groupware.

The other is running as a vmware instance. Have had no problems as of yet.

egroupware - user integration with SME?
« Reply #8 on: June 04, 2006, 11:03:56 PM »
Whether it's Open-xchange, egroupware or Conflux - is there any chance for them to integrate with the SME server's user database or do you maintain all users separately in each product's own user/group database?
Thanks,
Michael

I prefer it to openxchange - seems a lot more intuitive. It only comes with a 5 user free license though.

I have done an unfinished howto here if you are interested. Others have indicated it worked for them.

Duncan

What has happened to your unfinished howto for conflux ?? Did you have to do all the compilation steps stated in the conflux documentation ?
