i have a 2 lan interface sme 7 server set up. we had a public internet ip on 1 interface and a private ip on the other. the isp reassigned public ip addresses and i went into admin and reconfigured the ip address on the eth1 interface. the system rebooted after the reconfig and worked for 1 day.

now when the system boots up both interfaces come up, but the interface with the public ip does not respond. doing an ifconfig shows the public eth1 interface, but no ip address is listed. i tried changing the nic thinking i had a bad one and i still have the same problem.

any ideas?

I have lost one ip before, and I think I fixed it by telling it in the configuration screen  to swap the nics, rebooting, and swapping them back again. It has been a while since I had this happen, but give it a try, it won't hurt anything. I know i had to play with it just a little bit, but it started working.

If you think you know whats going on, you obviously have no idea whats going on!

thanks for the reply.

i have since gotten it working. evidently swapping in a new nic, deleting it and then going back to the old nic seemed to have fixed it.

strange stuff, but it works.
