Topic: How do I log into an i-bay as a User?

I'm trying to set it up so I can FTP into an i-bay and UPLOAD files from anywhere. In the documentation it says I have to log in as a user (not the i-bay username and password). Problem is: I don't know how to do that. I'm using Cyberduck FTP client, and can't find any option to log in as a user.

Any ideas? (I'm on Mac OS X 10.4.7).

Okay,

  I cannot provide much help with Mac OSX, but it's pretty simple.  First, in the server-manager GUI, make sure you have "Remote Access" set to allow FTP.  Then make sure you are in a group that has access to the ibay you want to work in.

  Finally, FTP with your username and password.  This takes you to you user's $HOME directory.  So, you'll need to find the ibays.  They are located in :

/ibays/<ibayname>/

Basically, go back to the root and then work up through ibays and the ibayname.

That is where I am having the problem: logging in via FTP takes me either anonomously to the primary i-bay or, by using an i-bay name as the username, to a particular i-bay.

How do I JUST log in as a user without going to an i-bay? What exactly is the command? Sorry, but I am new to this and obviously don't understand it very well.

Hamm,

  I think that depends on your FTP client.  If you log in as a user, where do you end up?  My guess is your own $HOME directory.  Pretty simple.

  Then you can cd ..   up the tree and down.

I apologize, but I don't think you understand: I CAN'T log in as a user! That's my problem! My FTP client asks for a username and password, but here is what happens:

If I try a username registered on the server - it won't connect because there is no i-bay by that name.

If I use an i-bay name as the username - it takes me to that i-bay.

If I don't put in a username at all - it logs me in as "anonymous" in the default (primary) i-bay.

There  does not appear to be a way to log in as a user that I can see, hence my question on this board. What am I doing wrong?

Yes - when I set it up originally, I made sure public FTP access was selected. Otherwise, I couldn't FTP to the i-bays at all - right? According to the manual, if the i-bay is set for FTP access but the Remote Access is not - no access is granted at either read or write level. Correct?

Ok - I finally figured it out. "My bad": I had set the server to accept FTP, but had not set it to accept passwords from the outside. All fixed now - thanks for your help.
