Topic: Email Test Sending in Outlook Failed

I don't know what's going wrong. I'm new to using SME.
Here's my problem:

I've setup SME as my webserver and mailserver in server only mode.
webmail seem to work normal when browsing via url/webmail but can't send e-mail using outlook...

I've been using a base install of centos installed with qmail and never had this problem before.

I just tried SME and see what it can offer...

Any idea regarding this?

Hackersoft,

When you say you can't send using Outlook are you using the 'send test email' function.

If so then it will fail. SME7 uses Qpsmtpd as its SMTP server. One of the plugins that qpsmtpd calls is 'check_earlytalker'. This plugin basically waits 1 sec to see if the sending MTA or mail server will try and send its message without being invited to. This is a typical Spammer trick.

When you use the 'send test email' function of Outlook it also does not wait to be invited by the mail server to send the message. It just dumps it on the mail server. In the case of SME7 this message gets Denied and dropped by the check_earlytalker plugin in qpsmtpd.

Ok... I've made it working fine now....

I noticed that SME uses only secured connections for e-mails.

I changed the SMTP port to 465 and enabled SSL and it worked!

it does not seem to work for me. could you please explain the steps to me ( just in case am doing it wrongly).
moreover, its not only in the test; also, when i send an actual mail to a user on the LAN, the message is not delivered.
