Newbie help (Contribs, Pseudonyms, SATA)
« on: July 13, 2006, 03:50:36 PM »
Hi all

I'm trying my first installation of SME and have a few questions which need answering.

1) How do you install the contribs? I've looked around and cant find anything to do with installing them.

2) I'd like to create a pseudonym called "news" that gets forwarded to everybody but it cant and replies with "Error occurred while creating pseudonym in database". I tried to create news12 and it works so I would imagine that news is already in use or something but I really need to have it as news and nothing else. Any ideas?

3) I bought 2 seagate SATA drives to run in RAID (hardware) but after the installation there seems to be a bit of a problem and get the following error on "creating quotas"

ata1:command 0X25 timeout, stat 0X50 host_stat 0X64

I used google (my friend) to search for this and see that there is a prob with the raid drivers but is there a work around to get this working? I did get past it once but then the server didnt funtion correctly (no server manger access, halting when logging in locally and so on). I gave up after installing a number of times and on an IDE drive there are not probs at all.

Thanks in advance!

Each contrib is different - you'll need to locate and follow the directions in the appropriate "How-To" for the contrib that interests you.

Try this:
# db accounts set news user

Now use the server-manager to
a) create a list named "news-list"
b) change the settings for the now-visible user account for "news" to forward all email to "news-list"

Warning: "news" is a reserved account, and I don't know exactly what is done with it in the depths of the SME system... make as few changes to the "news" user as possible!

Sorry, can't help you here.
