SME7 eGroupWare & SyncML SOLVED
« on: July 31, 2006, 03:18:43 PM »
I have installed SME 7 into a windows workgroup and then installed eGroupWare (eGW) into an 'egroupware' ibay on the SME server following the (very detailed) instructions from http://serviceinfosg.com

Now I would like to be able to get the MS Oltlook (LookOut) clients on the doze workstations to be able to sync with eGW.

It would seem that SyncML http://www.egroupware.org/sync would be the addin for eGW to achieve this task but I am not sure of the procedure for installing it to SME/eGW.

Has anyone managed to sync LookOut with eGW using SME7?

Is there a 'How to' for getting this to work?

Any & all advice would be appreciated...

Thanks.

Hi HenryH,

Syncml on eGroupWare is not usable because it is depending on PHP5 and that is not (yet) part of SME7. I believe the eGWOSync (still beta) is what you need to sync Outlook.

Kind regards,
jester.

Yes, I thought that the PHP4/5 thing may be an issue, though there did sem to be some suggestion of being able to keep PHP4 but to add some of PHP5.  I feel too faint hearted for going down that path on my own.

WRT eGWOSync, google suggests that http://www.hyber.dk/content/view/26/40/ and http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=78745&package_id=183617&release_id=401273
are places where I could look for this.  Are there any more suggestions and/or tips to getting it all working together?

Thanks...

P.S.  Is this the 'correct' forum for this discussion?

Yep you're on te proper forum because eGW is not a standard part of SME7.

On the same page you are referring to (http://www.egroupware.org/sync) there is a section "Outlook syncing using XMLRPC" there are all the needed links (=hyber.dk). When you download and install eGWOSync there will also be a MiniGuide installed that tells you how to set things up. A couple of things that are not that obvious:

    1) You've got to enable the XMLRPC service
When you're all set-up login as admin, go to admin section in eGW (mostly first icon on the toolbar) > site configuration > security section

    2) Setting up eGWOSync, when asked for a domain use: 'default' (like it says in the MiniGuide) unless you know better, otherwise you won't be able to connect.

    3) I've had problems with eGWOSync and Outlook2000 so you'd probably want to use a later version...

Hope this helps,
jester.

Yes. I did notice this and I think that it would be an improvement to have this pointed out in the mini-guide

I found that it worked with the field left blank!

I have Lookout 2002...

Now the problem is where do I find .net 1.??? as the download from M$ is 2.? and eGWOSync does not recognise it!  What's the way around this?

Thanks for the assistance[/quote]

If you already connected, you seem to have .NET ! If you want to download it search on the microsoft site and you shal find: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=nl&FamilyID=a8f5654f-088e-40b2-bbdb-a83353618b38

In what way does eGWOSync not recognise .NET 2.x ?! You seem to have connected, as stated above, so it seems to work. If you deem it nessecary you can de-install .NET 2.x and install .NET 1.x from the link above.

I have several windows XP (home & pro) workstations to connect.  One has .Net 1 and another didn't, so I searched M$ and only found .Net2.

After installing .Net2 and attempting to install I received a message that 1.1.??? was required, even though I had just installed 2.??

The eGroupWare site/forum confirmed that .Net2 is broken WRT this and that 1.1.?? is required.

Thanks for the link.  I hope that this discussion and resolution will prove valuable for others.
