Dial on Reuqest - HOW?

Dial on Reuqest - HOW?
« on: January 26, 2002, 07:34:56 AM »
I'm wanting to find out how to setup Dial on Request.

Also I had problems with the Server-Manager when I installed e-smith. When I went throught the configuration, I changed a couple of things, mainly setting when to make the modem dial. After the configuration finished, I noticed I couldn't access the server-manager. When I investigated further, I found in the Apache config file, lines were added with no host and just a port. eg :443

If anyone could help, please let me know

Have a look at this post from and old (and very long) thread.

It looks like the 'ip-change' event ran with an empty argument/ with an argument of [blank]. We of the other thread don't know why this happened, or how to remedy it. But it may be that e-smith background simply couldn't keep up with diald, because it keeps dialling every ten seconds. On that assumption, you could try to stop diald and then do an ip-change to 192.168.65.17 (look in the logs for the correct syntax of such a command), or maybe you could configure diald to use exponentially growing dialling intervals (try once, try after 10 secs, try after 20, try after 40, etc.). Hope this helps.

Robert, thankyou for your help.
I re-setup my e-smith machine and this time setting the configuration to 'never' on the modem setup. As you suggested, I installed Dialmon. Its up and running now, although, I am having slight problems with keeping a connection for as long as my ISP gives me. I've set it to force, so it's a wait and see if this works.
