SME 7.1.3 as persistent PPTP client to W2k3 main office?
« on: July 02, 2007, 04:10:21 PM »
Hey all.  I have a most likely not so unique situation here.  My main office is a Win2k3 AD domain, and we use PPTP for VPN access to the Office.  I have multiple machines in the remote office that need PPTP access to the main office.  I have an SME 7.1.3 install as my gateway/server in the remote office.  I was wondering if there was a way that I could initiate the VPN connection to the main office at the server, and have it be completely transparent to the workstations? (well maybe not completely transparent).  I know, I know..OpenVPN is the way to go, and I am pushing for it at work...however until then I need a solution.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I would have install a modem router (linksys is my favorite) in front of the SME at the remote location so the router will do the dialing out to the internet and would have set the SME server to dial your vpn tunnel.
The only problem i can think of in this scenario is the dns being managed by the Office's server and not by the local SME (which is better off course)
