Can SME pass a request to another SME server?
« on: August 01, 2006, 09:58:20 PM »
What I want to do is have my current SME (6.5 RC1) server which is currently hosting my wifes and my two websites ( www.aviondreams.com and www.shadowsfall.org ) and e-mail for both, pass a request to my test SME server (ver 7.0 ) for a third website and e-mail .  I want to play with a few things on that website and test server before switching my main home server from 6.5rc1 to 7.0

Network comes from Comcast to comcast "Modem" to Linksys router/firewall (a BEFSX41) to my home network.

Thanks

Ted

Web requests can be passed to an internal server using ProxyPass entries on the first server. Mail can be passed to an extra internal server using custom rcpthosts and smtproutes entries. You might ask for specific details of what you need to install and configure on the 6.x Contribs forum, since those are not standard features.

You might end up with more work to do configuring and then unconfiguring those things than you would by just upgrading the server to 7.0.

Personally I'd recommend getting rid of the router/firewall. It's more likely to cause problems than to help you in any way.
