Hi,
Running SME 7RC3.
have a number of users who all log intot he same folder and open AutoCad files. The AutoCad creates a Lock file so no one can open the file at the same time. The lock file should be deleted automatically when the file is closed. This fails sometimes and no one can open the file again.
Any ideas as this is driving me crazy.
copy of mail from AutoCad....
Dear Tony,
We are unable to test this situation as Autodesk doesn't support Linux/Unix-based network environment:

The error messages indicates some form of corruption. One of the causes of corruption is network file storage. Particularly when users are working and saving files directly to a network location. During high network utilization times, networking equipment can drop file information which can cause incomplete or corrupted saves in AutoCAD.
Best practice is to work on and save drawing files locally and then copy them to the network for backup/archive purposes. Also, storing drawing files in a filesystem other than NTFS or FAT is not recommended. Filesystems such as NFS, DFS, Novell etc have caused similar corruption problems for other users.
Here are some tips to protect the drawings from corruption:
1. Set the AutoCAD variable ISAVEPERCENT to 0. This reduces the amount of wasted space tolerated in the DWG file.
2. Use the autosave feature and if necessary turn up the frequency of automatic saves. if a drawing file cannot be recovered, much of its data can be found in these autosave files.
3. Be wary of 3rd party applications that install onto AutoCAD or manipulate DWG files directly. Many 3rd party applications can introduce corrupt data to the DWG database.
Listed below are drawing recovery techniques:
1. Use AutoCAD AUDIT command
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS54343 2. Use AutoCAD RECOVER command (Use the latest version of AutoCAD available)
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS21054 3. INSERT the drawing into a new drawing
4. WBLOCK
5. SAVEAS R13/SAVEAS R12
6. Export the drawing as a DXF file, then import the DXF file.
7. Query from AutoCAD Map
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS32245 8. Open the drawing in Autodesk View and then save the drawing as a .DXF file
9. Restore .SV$ or .bak files
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS20536 http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS20535 10. Use DesignCenter
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS60657 http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS43354 11. Use Migration Assistance batch drawing converter to convert to R12
12. Export in any format (Design XML, ACIS (*.sat), ESRI shape, Intergraph/Microstation .dgn,
Creating and loading DesignXML files (2002,2000i)
