Email Settings with Outlook Express
« on: August 08, 2006, 01:31:45 PM »
Hello,

I have been unable to set up Outlook Express to send and receive email from user accounts on the SME Server 7.0.

I have gotten horde to work, but, despite reading the documentation, have been unsuccessful in being able to send email using XP Professional SP 2 Outlook Express using email accounts on the SME Server 7.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have been unable to set up Outlook Express...

That is probably a good thing, as all mail programs from the Outlook family have a bad record of having security flaws which invite viruses and trojans to your system.

I would advise you to at least try Mozilla Thunderbird.

Bob,

Just one comment.  In step 3 of your howto you say:

Quote
3. If your SME server is behind a router, (which I do not recommend) you have forwarded ports
25, 110, 995, and 465 to your server IP.

I'm sure you mean firewall and not router.  Kinda hard to get on the net without a router  ;-)  Otherwise, nice info.

Cheers,

-jeff

Hi Jeff

I was thinking of some setups where people have a router between their cable/dsl modem and their server.

I will make it a point to mention that, and suggest they change to bridge mode if possible.

Thanks for the input.
