IBay Permissions
« on: August 18, 2006, 11:07:56 AM »
Hey Everyone

I want to setup a certain ibay for everyone on the network to map to. Now my SME server is not a DC and everytime I browse to the that ibay it prompts me for a username and password. So I enter them but there is no option to save the un & pw. the pc's are win 2000 pro.

Thanks!

GF

If the user name and passwords on the W2K boxes are the same as what is authorized on the SME box (samba), you shouldn't be prompted for user and passwords.

"map to" implies local file sharing ie Windows Explorer, is that what you mean ?

Do you mean Internet Explorer type web browsing or Windows Explorer file browsing ?
Did you set a password for the ibay for web access ?

Yes I did. When prompted to enter the password, I do. But when I reboot the local pc and attempt to browse the folder, I get prompted again for the username and password.

As you are talking about local file sharing, then the issue is that your Windows users are not authenticated against the sme server domain controller user accounts.
As sme is secure, it will ask for a valid username & password that has permission to access the ibay before allowing access.

You need to configure the ibays for guest access.

See this post which has sufficient clues re how to do this.
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=25227.0

When you copy a fragment for a particular ibay you will need to change the "guest ok" parameter to:
guest ok = yes
Change other parameters in the fragment to suit the particular ibayname.
