Internet Usage Quota
« on: May 31, 2007, 10:44:17 AM »
I am running the latest SME release 7.x on a home server.  It running in server & gateway mode.  On the internal Lan there are 5 Pcs.   (running Ubantu through to Vista).    Due to excessive internet usage (48GB+ per month from the teenage children) I need a way to implement some sort of internet usage quota by user.  At the monent I am resorting to Shutting down the server! at night.

A search of the forums shows nothing recent on this topic although it has come up before.

Ideally I like to implement a user internet usage quota but if this is not possible.

1. Is there a way to track the P2P  traffic like SARGE does for the browser traffic?

2. is there a way to implement traffic shaping on SME to severily restrict the P2P traffic with out stopping it all to gether.

3. Would controlling browser access using squid guard help?

Any Pointers or ideas would be appreciated

Thanks  Mike Drummond

This is for shaping classes of traffic.  Perhaps this could be of use to limit p2p traffic without eliminating it all together.  I have used it in the past with great success to limit outgoing traffic.

thanks - I am working my way through Wondersjhaper now just trying to get my head around the script configuration changes needed to adjust for what I am trying to do.
